The Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa review 2022
When my partner and I approached the Cambridge Belfry Hotel & Spa, we almost instantly felt like we had escaped all of life’s cares.
Our eyes were immediately fixed on the magnificent building and the picturesque lakes surrounding it before entering the grand entrance doors.
Once inside we were greeted by an approachable member of staff, who checked us in and gave us all the information we needed for our stay.
We visited the hotel for a one night stay on August 31st and my goodness what a relaxing time we had.
Located just 20 minutes from Cambridge city centre, Cambridge Belfry is a calming retreat where guests of all ages (whether couples, families or friends) can experience it at a much slower pace .
As soon as we arrived we noticed the diversity of ages of the people staying at the hotel – it really gave it that sense of community.
We stayed in one of the hotel’s penthouse suites on the third floor and both agreed that we really felt at home.
The bedroom was modern, spotless and well equipped with everything you need for a one night stay (and much longer really!) as it came with its own lounge and dining area.
The beds are extremely comfortable, the TV is much larger than you would normally get in a hotel room, there were lighted touchscreen mirrors in the bathroom, a coffee maker and the view from the windows was idyllic .
Our favorite part however was the jacuzzi spa bath that came with our room type – we felt like we were actually in the spa downstairs when we were actually enjoying this amenity in the comfort of our own room.
Days at the hotel and health club can be spent relaxing in the spa with luxury Elemis treatments and taking time in the steam room or sauna.
If you’re the more athletic type, you can hang out at the on-site gym (which is a decent size), play a game of tennis, or take a leisurely stroll around the hotel’s lakes and grounds.
There’s also the chance to swim a few laps at the pool which has motivational poems on its walls to put guests in the right frame of mind.
The pool has adult-only hours later in the day, so guests are free to choose a time that suits them.
The elegant restaurant and breakfast room, which have been decorated in a way to ease guests’ minds, overlooks the tranquil lake and really gives you that instant feeling while you dine there.
We both had a three course meal and felt like we were eating in a Michelin starred restaurant – we couldn’t fault the food or the service.
The food was cooked completely fresh for each individual table, which we were happy about.
To start, I opted for the cherry tomato and basil focaccia while my partner chose the barbecue glazed meatballs. These really tickled the taste buds before our main meal arrived.
My partner had the rib eye steak which was pleasing to the eye (and tasted amazing too).
I opted for the grilled chicken supreme and was happy with my choice – it was very filling.
We had just about enough room for desserts. After reading them on the menu, we were both mouth watering.
I chose the chocolate ganache tart and my partner opted for the blueberry sour cream cheesecake.
After our three course meal the night before, we got up early the next day to sample the breakfast menu.
It had everything you would hope for for your morning fuel; no one would go hungry!
From a traditional fry-up of bacon, sausages, eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes and fried bread, there’s also cereal, yogurt, toast and a selection of pastries – what more could you ask for?
After our breakfast, we spent time in the hotel’s health club and spa; we both left feeling more relaxed than we had ever felt before.
I opted for the relaxing face and back ritual while my partner chose the business friendly back ritual.
The beauticians made us feel extremely relaxed and comfortable while performing our massages; we both commented afterwards on how comfortable we felt throughout.
Tranquil music was playing in our treatment room and the room was also dark and soothing which helped us fully experience the spa feeling.
As well as being a hotel, the Cambridge Belfry also accommodates day guests, spa guests and a wedding venue.
When we left, I spoke to General Manager Jon Nield who, after working at Cambridge Belfry for the past two months, hopes to drive the hotel forward with new energy, focusing on guest experience and the local community.
“For me, the hotel is very community-oriented,” he said.
“We are the largest companies in this development and would like our hotel to be part of the backbone of the community; support them in other things we can do too.
He added: “We are a corporate hotel but we are also geared towards leisure with our facilities such as the spa and health club which hotel guests can use as well as those wishing to attend just to the day.”

To book a hotel stay, Jon says it’s best to book direct through their website as they regularly run offers such as 10-25% off booking your stay.
