New York State Fall Foliage Report, week ending November 2
According to volunteer observers from Empire State Development’s I LOVE NY program, beautiful fall colors will appear in the Finger Lakes and parts of the Hudson Valley this weekend, as near and maximum colors arrive. in Long Island. I LOVE NY defines “peak” as the best overall appearance the foliage will have during the season, given the transition of colors, shine and leaf fall. The change in foliage has been uneven this season and travelers may find that some areas classified as woodpecker and near-woodpecker contain an abundance of green leaves.
In the Hudson Valley, the peak of foliage is expected in the Poughkeepsie region of Dutchess County, with an 80% color change, and bright, shiny yellow and orange leaves, as well as red and green spots. Orange County foliage will be at its peak in Newburg with an 80% color change and medium to bright red, orange and yellow leaves. Peak conditions are also expected in the Cornwall area, where observers expect 50% leaf transition and varying shades of muted to medium yellow and orange, as well as areas of green remaining. Putnam County Reports Cold spring Expect near peak conditions with 50% of the leaves displaying brilliant red, yellow and orange colors against the fading sea of ââgreen. A few trees started dropping leaves providing a crisp, colorful cover on the ground. Along the Taconic State Parkway, Route 9 and Route 301 are scenic, with about 75% foliage change dominated by shiny golden yellow leaves and a scattering of red and orange.
Rockland County Observers in New city anticipate near-peak foliage with a 75% color change and bright green, red, orange and yellow leaves. Look for average conditions near the tip at Bear Mountain State Park with a 60-65% change and varying shades of red, yellow and brown, as well as some dropping. Near peak foliage continues in Westchester County this weekend, according to volunteers from white plains. Look for a 65% color change and mostly muted green, red and yellow leaves. Columbia County Observers in Hudson Expect past peak conditions with 90% color change and bright yellow and gold leaves, and significant leaf drop.
